How Can The Thyroid Gland Control So Much
The Thyroid gland is a contributing factor to the way we feel, react and how other parts of the human body either interact or repel against each other.
For such a small thing, the thyroid is a major influence in controlling our metabolism. It is responsible for converting our calorie and oxygen intake into energy.
Some people can suffer with an underactive thyroid, or an overactive thyroid. If people suffer with an underactive thyroid (or hypothyroidism) they are basically not producing enough of the thyroid hormone. If this is the case, and the body is not keeping the correct pace, then there can be significant symptoms. These can include feeling cold, being tired more of the time and possibly putting on weight.
My wide suffers from this condition and has always been slim. She is not overweight now, but a few pounds have been added since she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism five years ago. She often jokes that she should have an over active thyroid, which can cause you to lose weight.
Of course there are other complications associated with having a thyroid condition and heart disease is one of those that a lot of people will worry about.
It is amazing to me how much the thyroid controls in the body and what a big knock on affect it has to many parts of my wife’s every day life. Sometimes she can be very lethargic and other times full of energy. If she can eat well, sleep well and drink plenty of water, then she will feel better about her condition. However, they say these things coupled with fruit and veg is enough to beat almost anything.
The bottom line is that most thyroid conditions can be treated but it doesn’t mean that anyone taking drugs is cured, just because their levels of T3 and T4 are seen to be within the correct levels. There is a much bigger picture than this and if your GP tells you this when you go to him or her complaining about feeling unwell, do not accept this as OK. Your health is worth far more than what is down on paper as normal levels. You know how you feel, so make sure you put that across to the so called experts.
